There are a lot of different ways that you can cut down on what you spend in your household budget every month, and one such example is by saving money through how you communicate on the phone.
Telephone services are easily capable of costing a typical family as many as several thousands of dollars in a single year. You could easily save as much as $30 if not more in a single month just by choosing a more cost effective method of communication. Here are some things that you can do in order to have a positive effect on the monthly budget for your household.
Traditional Phones (Landline) -
When was it, when you last sat down and scrutinized the monthly landline phone bill? Sit down with the bills from the past few months and be meticulous about analyzing them.
- Are you paying for any optional features that you are not using or do not actually need, such as caller ID or phone line insurance for example?
- How many international or long distance calls are you typically making? If you are making a significant number, then you may actually be able to find a significantly cheaper calling plan. If you are making very few long distance calls, then why should you be paying for a long distance service, when you can use a prepaid phone card or a dial-around service instead?
- Are you paying to use operator tasks that you could just as easily do for your own self? If you ask for an operator to place a call for you, or simply to look up a number for you, then that is going to cost money that you do not actually need to be paying.
- Some people can get by simply using a cell phone. If you do disconnect your telephone line, make sure that it is not going to prevent you from accessing the internet (dialup), as you may need to find another method of getting online if you previously depended on your phone line.
Cell Phones -
Once again, you should sit down and scrutinize at least your last three bills.
- What calling plan do you have? Does it match the way that you use your cell phone? Are the peak calling periods actually convenient, are you using your minutes wisely, and do you have a text message plan that suits the way you send text messages?
- Can you afford to pay for all of the extras that come with your cell phone like fancy ring tones and video games? If you cannot afford the extra bells and whistles, why are you paying for them?
- If you are only occasionally using your cell phone, why not consider a prepaid plan for wireless? This could end up saving you money in the long run. Some plans are relatively cheap and give you the calling features that you need.
