Save Heaps at Home

Saving money on energy bills is something that appeals to everybody, young or old, single or married, rich or poor. Whatever your circumstances, you can benefit from the facilities available online to help you find cheaper energy deals. For example, if you compare energy prices at moneysupermarket, you could end up pleasantly surprised at how much you can save on your gas and electricity bills.

There is always room for improvement on your bills, but, while energy suppliers can offer you the best deals here, there and everywhere, it is at home with you and your family that the real savings can be made. Making a conscious effort to save energy on a daily basis, in every room in the house, can make a significant difference to your overall outgoings.

Bathroom:

In the bathroom, for instance, you could have shorter showers or, if you really have to have a bath, have shallower baths. When you go to the loo, perhaps ask yourself if it is really necessary to flush every time. Moreover, turning the tap off when you’re brushing your teeth can also be remarkably effective.

Kitchen:

In the kitchen there are, as you would expect, all sorts of cutbacks to be made. Maybe you could preheat the oven for 10 or five minutes instead of 20? Boiling just enough water in the kettle as and when you need it is another simple one that a lot of energy companies have pushed in recent times and practicing it saves you both the money and the time you would spend waiting for that excess water to boil. Flicking the switches to all of your appliances off at the wall and, similarly to the bath suggestion, only filling the sink halfway for the washing up is a positive contributory factor. If you have a dishwasher in the form of a machine (and not a child), only set it off if you have a full load to clean, and the same applies to your washing machine and tumble dryer.

Bedroom:

In the bedroom, there may not be as much room to manoeuvre, but you can still make some worthwhile savings. If you’ve got a TV in there, try not to watch it every night and flick it off at the wall when you’re done. Read by candlelight instead of lamplight. Give your children an incentive (an eco-friendly one, of course) to play their games consoles less before they go to bed, or at the very least, ask them to flick their switches, too.

Living Room:

Finally, in the living room, the same old tedious but very effective switch flicking takes precedence. Watching more films with the lights off adds to the experience (well, mainly with horror films, so maybe just watch more of them).

You can save money all around the house with minimal elbow grease; every little bit goes a long way when it comes to your bills.
