Improve Your Credit Today

visasHaving blemished credit is both costly and stressful, but it does not have to be the end. Your situation may seem incredibly hopeless, but bad credit does not last forever. There are many things that can be done to improve your credit score.

- Stop using any of your credit cards. When you are in a bad credit situation, the worst thing that you could do is to continue to accumulate debt by making purchases using your credit cards. You are going to want to put your credit cards away right now until you have greater control over your financial situation.

- Obtain a copy of your credit report. You are not going to be able to repair your credit until you know what needs to be worked on. Obtain a copy of all three of your credit reports to find out which accounts require work and which are still in good standing.

- Clean your credit report up. If there is incorrect information in your credit report, then you have the right to make sure that it is removed for you. Your credit report is going to include information that pertains to disputing any inaccurate information with all three of the credit bureaus.

- Get current on all of your delinquent accounts. Your history of making payments makes up a startling 35% of your total credit score. When you get current on any of your delinquent accounts it is going to have a profound impact on your credit score.

- Do not put in any more applications for credit. As long as you are in credit repair mode, you are going to want to avoid making any more credit applications. It is actually likely that you will simply be turned down, and all of those applications are going to harm your credit rather than helping it.

- Keep your accounts that have balances open. You may be tempted to close them out if your account is delinquent, but you really are going to want to wait. Before you close out any account, make sure that it is not going to impact your credit in a negative way.

- Phone your creditors. They may be the least most popular people in your eyes right now, but they may be able to provide you with help if you ask for it. Talk to your creditors about the situation that you are currently in. Many actually have temporary hardship programs that will help to cut down on your monthly payments until you can get caught up again.

- Pay your debts off completely. Improving your credit situation relies upon being able to pay off your debts. If you do not have enough money on hand, you may want to speed the process up a bit by selling off belongings that you no longer need. While it is never fun to make a sacrifice, the payoff is quite worthwhile.
