If you are still employed, you may feel lucky and cursed at the same time. This is because while there are less people in your office, the workload is the same. With less people in the office, you have to do double and in some cases triple the amount of work you have been accustomed to performing.
This would be fine if you were to be able to get some kind of financial compensation for all of your hard work. This is just simply not possible. The same circumstances which led to everyone in your office getting fired is the reason why you cannot get a raise. The company you work for simply cannot afford to pay you any more money.
This does not mean there are no other ways in which you can be compensated for your hard work and due diligence. Here is a list of alternative compensations you can ask your company for:
- Performance Evaluations – While there is no possibility of getting a raise right now, it is important to make sure it is well documented everything you are doing for the company in its time of need. This is important because the company will eventually make a turn around and you want to make sure you are first in line for a raise.
- Extra Vacation Time – Your very sanity is on the line by working so hard and for extended hours at that. This is why many companies are glad to allow you to have additional vacation time. They know you will not be any good to the company if you get completely fried out. This does not even have to be a whole week added to your vacation time already allotted. This can be in the form of single days which you can spend with your family and friends.
- Altering Work Times – Many people can face their day a lot better when they do not have to face the hectic drive to work. This can mean showing up a bit later or even showing up earlier. This is a benefit to all the other drivers as well as to your sanity.
- A Change in Job Title – While changing your job title will not come with any extra income now, it is possible for you to get more money later on. This is because you will have created a new job which needs to have a pay associated with it. Once the company is back in the black again, it will be your time to get the pay you deserve for all of your hard work.
- Working from Home – Telecommuting is something which benefits every company and every employee. The employee can relax more by not having to worry about a daily commute. This also makes it where the employee is not begging off from work more for mental health days. Your family will also enjoy being able to see your face. Working from home has actually been proven to be more productive in most cases because people want to prove they are working from the right place. Telecommuting also helps businesses out because they do not have to pay for all the additional office space to house you.
The important thing is to make sure your company is showing you the respect you deserve for all of your hard work. Make sure you do not get upset and tell anyone off. This will only lead to problems which might lead to your termination. Ride it out a bit longer and you are sure to be rewarded for your perseverance.
